Ubisoft and Immutable Collaborate to Unlock Web3 Gaming Potential
Prestigious gaming studio Ubisoft partners with blockchain game firm, Immutable, in a strategic move to leverage Web3 functionalities for mainstream game development.
Ubisoft, the AAA gaming studio known for epic titles like Assassin’s Creed, is venturing into the Web3 realm by partnering with Immutable, a frontrunner in blockchain game development. Their goal is to craft a Web3-enabled gaming experience set to innovate the mainstream gaming industry.
This move, fostered by Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab, intends to blend Ubisoft’s gaming expertise with Immutable’s robust blockchain solutions. Nicolas Pouard, the leader of Ubisoft’s blockchain efforts, has praised Immutable for their adeptness in integrating decentralized elements within games.
“We’re excited to partner with them and look forward to bringing that level of fluidness within a full-fledged game, so players only have to focus on the fun of the experience.”
James Ferguson, Immutable’s co-founder and CEO, echoed Pouard’s enthusiasm for the partnership. He stated,

Immutable is bringing to the table their signature zero-knowledge (ZK) rollups—a layer-2 Ethereum scaling technology that underpins high-speed and low-cost transactions. Key innovations include Immutable zkEVM, designed for Ethereum’s layer-2 via Polygon, and Immutable X, developed with ZK-tech leader StarkWare.
The collaboration will explore the burgeoning domain of Web3 games, which are increasingly capturing the mainstream market’s attention. Immutable’s portfolio, featuring games like Guild of Guardians and Metalcore, showcases the possibilities of in-game asset ownership and blockchain integration.
Looking ahead to the rise of Web3 gaming in 2024, this partnership is set to be a significant milestone for Ubisoft’s expansion into NFTs and blockchain gaming. Ubisoft’s previous forays into NFTs, including collectibles from the Rabbids series and Tezos NFTs for Ghost Recon Breakpoint, highlight their continuous innovation in the gaming space.
