Uniswap Introduces Android Mobile Wallet in a Beta Release

Uniswap ventures into the Android market with a beta version of its wallet app, months after its iOS debut.

Uniswap, the global leader in decentralized cryptocurrency exchange, recently announced the beta launch of its mobile wallet app for Android. This puts Uniswap one step closer to a full-fledged Google Play Store debut. Until now, Uniswap’s wallet was exclusively available to users on PC and iOS mobile devices.

With a cumulative processing volume exceeding $1.7 trillion since its inception, Uniswap has primarily facilitated transactions via its web-based application. The app’s introduction on iOS took place on April 13, amidst delays reportedly caused by Apple’s stringent App Store policies. However, the platform had not launched an app for Android devices until now.

The newly released Android beta app features an array of user-friendly attributes, emphasizing the ease of cryptocurrency trading. The app allows users to choose coins from various chains without the need to switch networks manually. It recognizes the network a coin resides on and automatically swaps to that network. The app currently supports Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, and BNB Chain, with expansion to additional chains planned for future.

In its bid to provide a seamless crypto-trading experience, the mobile wallet boasts a feature that routes Ethereum transactions through a private pool. This functionality is aimed to secure transactions from front-running and sandwich attacks. Users, however, have the option to disable this feature if preferred. The wallet can also identify most coins with built-in transfer fees, displaying these fees in the user interface for transparency.

Uniswap has commenced a sign-up process for an email waitlist, intended for early users to gain access to the app. Furthermore, the company plans to publicly release the app’s open-source code, pending a security audit with Trail of Bits.

The mobile wallet entrant isn’t the only one in the decentralized exchange space. The year 2021 saw 1inch, another exchange platform, launch its mobile wallet for iOS, followed by an Android version released in October.

Uniswap’s mobile wallet for Android is currently under beta testing, with a full release anticipated by the year’s end. Bridgett Frey, spokesperson for Uniswap Labs, expressed the company’s eagerness to polish any pending issues during the beta phase and transition smoothly into the onboarding of new users.

Uniswap Labs intends to follow the successful strategy implemented for their iOS app launch, which ranked among the top three downloads the month it was released.
