A solo Bitcoin miner managed on his own to add a block and get 6.25 BTC as a reward
Last Friday, a solo miner got lucky and managed to be the first to add block 772,793 to the Bitcoin blockchain. The feat is even more impressive as he managed to add this block with a rig of only 10TH/s, the combination of 4 small miners, which costs around $200 each.
This miner had one in 26.9 million chances to add the block on his own, since it depends on the number of hashes a rig is computing per second in relation to the global hashrates. As a result, the miner was rewarded with 6.25 BTC, worth around $130,000 at the time.

The prolonged crypto winter was even harsher on miners, and the consecutive bankruptcies saw some major actors in the industry struggling, to the point where they had to sell their equipment in order to try to avoid bankruptcy themselves. The drop in Bitcoin prices, coupled with the increase of energy costs, caused miners to shut down operations. The recent Bitcoin rally is a nice relief for those who held on. But at the same time, states have been pushing to shut down mining operations, as they consider the activity too energy-consuming. The New York state decided mining farms would be allowed to run only if they use renewable energies.
